How to become a Private Hire Vehicle Driver

The Topographical Assessment is a vital and compulsory part of you becoming a Private Hire Vehicle Driver. Being a registered Public Carriage Office- Private Hire Vehicle Driver is more than just a job, it's a career move that unlike many other jobs gives you the freedom to choose hours to fit around your schedule. In order to succeed in this test please see below.

You will have to demonstrate a clear and comprehensive understanding of the following:

• Local and national map reading ability.
• Route selection (local) - the ability to identify and plan a route or routes within a local area of London.
• Route selection (intermediate) - the ability to identify and plan a route (or routes) beyond your local area but within London.
• Route selection (long distance) - the ability to identify and plan a route (or routes) to points outside London.
• General topography - awareness of general geography of London, major arterial roads and locations beyond London (eg, airports, towns, cities etc)

We advise that you study a London street map and an atlas of England. (You may be able to purchase from Civilised on request)
